Claire Ireland

Claire Ireland is a dedicated hand builder and revels in how ideas develop out of the process of making and experimenting with materials and techniques. An established ceramic sculptor, she has been exhibiting nationally and internationally since graduating from Camberwell College of Arts in 1981. Claire produces elegant hand built sculptural forms on different scales and uses her studio location, based in the grounds of a historical steam museum to inform her practice, absorbing the industrial heritage surrounding her, which has been a significant element when developing ideas.  An experienced tutor, she teaches contemporary ways of making and experimental decorative techniques, which includes specialist short courses on smoke firing and experimental paperclay techniques. Claire is a professional member of the Craft Potters Association and the Society of Designer Craftsmen. She has just completed a book on Surface Decoration for Ceramics, commissioned by Crowood Press, which was published in 2023.
