Telen Rodwell

For the past 20 years Telen has been behind the lens in many diverse and challenging cultural situations, telling stories with marginalised and vulnerable groups of people.  He began his journey in Tasmania, where he used his passion for skateboarding to draw a parallel with an epidemic of young men killing themselves and their mates behind the wheel.

He’s worked intimately in remote Aboriginal communities where he also composed music with incarcerated men.  He’s explored disaster relief in Haiti, micro finance in Uganda and orphanhood in Nepal.

He’s always had a particular focus on young people and their battle to be heard.  His inquisitive nature lends itself to the pursuit of storytelling in the forms of the moving and still image, songwriting, poetry and philosophy.  Sometimes satirical, sometimes serious, his experimental documentary work and his music have featured on national television, radio and abroad.

His exhibition at XYZ, titled The Room Thing is an open invitation into his work and musings on injustice and personal empowerment through creativity.
