Brentford Library
Brentford Library, is a Carnegie Library split over two floors recently renovated to include Adult Education Classrooms and also provide residents and customers access to the first floor after over 30 years.
The current library was opened in 1904 by Andrew Carnegie, an American-Scottish philanthropist. It's one of several buildings designed by Thomas Henry Nowell Parr, an architect for Brentford Council, he went on to design pubs for Fuller's Brewery including The Beehive and The Watermans Arms.
EXPLORE ART is a free monthly drop-in session for adults over 16 years old. Our aim is to engage the local men and women in creative activity: exploring different art styles, mediums, topics, famous artists, and to enjoy creating together in a relaxing environment. Most of the participants live in Hounslow but have their roots in various cultures across the world. Every artist brings their own individuality to what they create. After every session we encourage everyone to share and comment on their own art, which enriches the group, helps with artistic confidence and strengthens the sense of community/togetherness (?).
The group is led by library staff and the work displayed was produced by the Explore Art participants in 2025. The subjects of the sessions included:
‘Styles’:
- Art Nouveau
- Pop art
- Post Impressionism
- Abstract Art
‘My story’:
- Favourite book characters
- My Neighbourhood (watercolours)
- My Creative Journal (mixed media)
