Madeleine Marsh
Madeleine Marsh is a writer and artist, making sculpture, jewellery and decorative objects.
A Londoner born and bred, she has spent many years mudlarking the Thames and Canals of London and is one of only 30 artists to have been granted a Creative License by the Port of London Authority to make works of art with her Thames finds.
Madeleine’s “Madlark” Mirrors and sculptures celebrate the remarkable human history of London and the wildlife that lives on its waterways, even in the heart of the city. Madeleine also transforms her mudlarked finds into unique pieces of jewellery, giving new life to these lost and broken treasures.
As well as recycling mudlarked material, Madeleine works in many different media.
As a writer and broadcaster she specialised in antiques and social history, writing and editing numerous books and appearing on many TV programmes, including the BBC Antiques Roadshow. Her jewellery and sculpture often draw on history, using antique artefacts and finding a new purpose for the now redundant everyday objects of past. Her creations always tell a story and often have a sense of humour.
As any artist knows, the practicalities of making are a serious business, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun!
